Emmerdale spoilers follow for Thursday’s episode (25 September), which is streaming now on ITVX and YouTube but hasn’t yet aired on ITV1.
There’s another explosive visit to Emmerdale tonight as John Sugden’s departure from the village leaves everyone in shock. As Caleb Miligan reluctantly helped the evil villain to escape abroad, those who were affected by John’s crimes angrily demand answers.
Meanwhile, with John gone, another nasty character in the village is only just getting started. As drug dealer Ray tries to keep his illegal operation afloat, he continues to manipulate April Windsor and Dylan Penders.

1. Cain confronts Caleb

Finally conscious again, furious Cain seeks out Caleb at Mill Cottage and demands an explanation for his brother’s betrayal. He’s livid that he was prevented from securing justice for Nate’s death, as Caleb took him out of action at the crucial moment.
Caleb’s quick to defend his decision, pointing out what was at stake for everyone after John had threatened to expose Anthony’s murder. But it seems that Cain is in no mood for excuses when he points a gun at Caleb, sparking a tense new showdown between the siblings.
2. Caleb drops a bombshell on Ruby
As Cain later vents to Moira about his brother’s betrayal, Caleb is faced with the tough task of filling Ruby in over everything that’s been happening. Ruby is highly concerned at the mention of Anthony’s name and she worries that it’s only a matter of time before the police turn up to arrest her.
Caleb is more relaxed over the situation, as he firmly believes that his deal with John was genuine and that the dark secret of Anthony’s death will stay buried.
He then shares that John even confirmed Anthony’s burial location – although the only way to test his reliability will be to check it out…
3. Caleb goes digging
Caleb carries out the grim task of digging at the remote spot where John has now claimed to have buried Anthony’s body.
Has John outsmarted his enemies yet again by providing another false location, or will Anthony’s remains be found exactly where John claimed they’d be?

With Cain in the picture, Caleb is forced to confess to the rest of the family over his role in helping John escape – including to Aaron.
Will Aaron understand Caleb’s decision to protect the Anthony secret at all costs? Or will he turn against his uncle for letting John go free?
5. April receives a tempting offer
April reminds Ray that she wants to receive the exact details of how much she and Dylan still owe. Fearing that she’s being strung along, April demands full transparency – so Ray gives her an inflated figure.
Ray tells April that she could settle the debt more quickly if she becomes a full-time dealer for him, rather than simply carrying out small-time drop-offs. Is April ready to step up – and commit more serious crimes?
6. Paddy offers to help Dylan
Paddy is intrigued when he learns that Dylan wants to start driving. He offers to help Dylan with his theory revision, unaware that he’s playing straight into Ray’s hands.
Ray is still determined to use Dylan’s job at the depot to his own advantage, especially if the young lad starts driving…
7. Liam faces another intervention
There’s more drama at the surgery, as the staff remain in crisis mode over John implicating their workplace in his reign of terror. Everyone is stunned that John stole medication to carry out his crimes.
Liam’s day gets worse when Manpreet spots him urgently using the basin in his consultation room as a toilet. Backed into a corner when Manpreet seeks answers, Liam reveals the symptoms he’s been experiencing.
