Emmerdale star Lawrence Robb has finally addressed the swirling speculation that his character, Mackenzie Boyd, is set to leave the ITV soap. Appearing on Loose Women, the actor spoke candidly about the rumours, while also teasing what’s to come for Mack and the ongoing John Sugden saga.
Mackenzie Boyd’s Turbulent Journey
Since his 2020 arrival in the village, Mack has been at the heart of some of Emmerdale’s most dramatic storylines. Introduced after a flirtatious encounter with Charity Dingle, Mack has since found himself embroiled in crime, betrayal, and shocking secrets.
Now married to Charity, their relationship has faced new challenges as she stepped in to be a surrogate for Sarah Sugden. The strain has sparked speculation that Mack’s story may soon be reaching its breaking point.

When asked directly about an exit on Loose Women, Lawrence chose his words carefully:
“Rumours they shall remain. I’ve always said being in the show I never want to be too prescriptive with it. I’ve always enjoyed doing what I’m doing and ultimately if and when it’s time for Mack to leave, whether it’s mine or the producers’ choice, I’ll be thankful for the time that I’ve had.”
The actor also poked fun at Emmerdale’s danger-filled reputation, joking:
“It’s the most dangerous village in the country.”
While he stopped short of confirming anything, Lawrence hinted there’s plenty of drama on the horizon:
“There’s a lot of stuff coming, I’ve really enjoyed filming it.”
John Sugden’s Shadow
Much of the exit speculation has tied Mack’s fate to John Sugden, played by Oliver Farnworth. John has become one of the soap’s most chilling villains in years, leaving fans wondering if Mack could become his next victim.
Speaking warmly of his co-star, Lawrence praised Farnworth’s performance:
“What a lovely boy. I phoned him a couple of weeks ago, just to say how I thought he was doing such a great job, because, you know, playing a psycho like that—it is not easy. And he is just the loveliest man.”
He admitted it feels “surreal” to work so closely with someone on dark, violent scenes while also enjoying laughs together off-set.
