Coronation Street fans have been left split over a recent gut-wrenching Sam Blakeman storyline.
Sam (Jude Riordan) first appeared on the ITV soap in 2020, arriving on the cobbles as Nick Tilsley’s (Ben Price) secret son.
A significant new plotline has recently unfolded for Sam on the cobbles. The teenager hasn’t been the same since he found out that Will Driscoll (Lucas Hodgson-Wale) had been groomed by his coach and teacher, Megan Walsh (Beth Nixon).
Sam’s had a dramatic few weeks
As the storyline has developed, Sam’s mental health has taken a worrying turn, with the youngster suffering hallucinations in which Will appears to be stalking and threatening him. In Friday’s episode (May 15), Roy Cropper (David Neilson) spent time with Sam as his worried family voiced their concerns, reports the Daily Star.
It later emerged, however, that Sam had been hallucinating Roy entirely, having imagined a fictitious conversation with him during a game of chess.
His mental state has deteriorated
This illusory version of Roy told Sam that he was a disappointment to his father Nick (Ben Price), before going on to warn Sam against placing his trust in anybody. However, it seems some fans are far from happy with the harrowing new plotline surrounding Sam.
On a Coronation Street Facebook fan page, one viewer commented: “I think it’s gone too far with Sam. Every story is miserable, please give us some happier storylines that also happen in real life!”
Another chimed in: “After a lifetime I’ve stopped watching, and the worst thing is I don’t miss it.” A third added: “Feels like I’m watching a different show! Let us have more humour and less drama.”
