Total Eclipse of the Heart singer Bonnie Tyler remains in an induced coma after reportedly suffering a cardiac arrest during recovery from emergency appendix surgery in Portugal

A close friend of Bonnie Tyler has shared a concerning update after the star reportedly had to be “resuscitated after going into cardiac arrest.”
Medical staff attempted to bring her out of an induced coma at an Algarve, Portugal, hospital after she became unwell following life-saving surgery for a ruptured appendix. Reports indicate it was during this time that the pop star experienced cardiac arrest.
Liberto Mealha, a longtime friend of Bonnie’s, told Good Morning Britain they are hoping for signs of improvement today. The friend – whose daughter has Bonnie as her godmother – said, “I could not see her because she’s in intensive care, but we are praying for better news. The doctors are positive with the situation, but so far it’s not that good.”
Bonnie’s team had previously revealed she was placed in an induced coma to support her recovery, reports the Mirror. A spokesperson for the singer said in a statement, “Bonnie has been put into an induced coma by her doctors to aid her recovery. We know that you all wish her well and ask for privacy at this difficult time, please. We will issue a further statement when we are able to.”

Earlier in the week, a representative for the performer revealed that Bonnie, 74, was “recuperating well” and a swift recovery seemed likely – before her condition sadly worsened once more.
The statement read, “We are very sorry to announce that Bonnie has been admitted to hospital in Faro, Portugal, where she has a home, for emergency intestinal surgery.
“The surgery went well, and she is now recuperating. We know that all of her family, friends, and fans will be concerned about this news and will be wishing her well for a full and swift recovery.”

Bonnie, who is best known for her chart-topping hit Total Eclipse of the Heart, divides her time between her South Wales residence and her Portuguese home in Faro, a country she fell for years ago. She has spoken candidly about her health throughout the years, recently disclosing that her knees were her primary health concern.
“I’m still rocking on that stage with my wonderful band, and if you’ve got your health, you’ve got everything. I do home Pilates, only 20 minutes a day – it’s something I can do in my hotel rooms,” she explained regarding her exercise routine.
She added, “I have had problems with my knees; I didn’t have new knees, I had what they call washouts [a surgical knee procedure], which turned out to be very successful. So, hopefully that will last for a long time.”
