“Brexit is back.” Labour figures are openly talking about closer EU ties again and millions of Leave voters are asking the same question: why does Westminster keep trying to reverse a democratic decision it never accepted in the first place? The fight over Britain’s sovereignty is far from over.

Labour’s “reset” with the European Union could be in peril as a result of the party’s tumultuous leadership crisis – as a summit with the bloc next month has now been thrown into doubt.

The summit is currently due to take place in June. However, the talks could be pushed back to July – at least.

Sir Keir Starmer’s dwindling leadership has fuelled concerns among officials, with sources admitting they believe he is “too weak” to even last the coming months, Bloomberg reported.

The planning process for the summit has now become a “difficult process”, British officials have ceded, with Brussels starting to lose faith in the Prime Minister’s tenure.

While some officials said the postponement was down to the Westminster chaos, others suggested Sir Keir could not cough up the concessions required to plough on with EU reset talks.

The Prime Minister is said to have had high hopes for the talks with European leaders, vowing to put Britain “in the very heart of Europe”.
