Prince William puts on disguises and uses an “iffy” Welsh accent when enjoying downtime with his pals, it has been claimed. The future King was seen last week jubilantly celebrating his beloved Aston Villa’s Europa League triumph in Istanbul with his long-term friends in the terraces.

It was a rare glimpse into how the future monarch takes immense pleasure from the simple things in life — like seeing the football team you support score a vital goal. Pictures of William singing his heart out were shown all over the world — and he was joined by Thomas van Straubenzee, a former Ludgrove Prep School classmate and now senior executive at Knight Frank, who is a godfather to Princess Charlotte, and Edward van Cutsem, a former banker who is a godson of King Charles.

The 43-year-old was also joined by Ben Dawes who runs a wine business in Wimbledon.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, William and his friends meet up “infrequently” but when they do, it is cherished, and they enjoy barbecues, beer and wine.

They are said to gather at each other’s houses to avoid the glare of the public — or they sometimes meet up in West London pubs where discreet landlords welcome them to quieter back rooms.

A royal source claimed to the publication that William is known to “don an occasional disguise” which can include shaving his beard and wearing a hat and glasses.

However, they additionally suggested that the heir to the throne occasionally uses an “iffy” Welsh accent to avoid strangers detecting who he really is.

The source said the lads often go on an annual ski holidayy. They added: “Like all senior royals, he rarely lets his guard down with anyone. He is wary of getting too close to others. His true inner circle is very select.”

They added: “Their occasionally boisterous behaviour has to be toned down so as not to draw too much attention to themselves but these are sort of ‘let your hair down’ moments for William who can’t act like this anywhere else.”

After Aston Villa ended a 30-year trophy drought to beat Freiburg 3-0 in the Europa League final on May 20, William was said to have enjoyed beers with the players after the match.

This is according to defender Matty Cash who said: “He was in there having a beer with us. He’s just delighted. He’s such a big supporter. He’s always coming to the training ground, always at Villa Park.

“And he deserves moments like these and hopefully he can let his hair down today.”

William himself wrote on social media: “Amazing night! Huge congratulations to all the players, team, staff and everyone connected to the club! 44 years since the last taste of European silverware!”

Kensington Palace was contacted for a response to claims made in this story.
