Rylan Clark has revealed the devastating fear that keeps him awake at night – losing his beloved mother, Linda.
The 36-year-old presenter recently returned from India with his close friend and co-star Rob Rinder, where they filmed Rob and Rylan’s Passage to India. While the trip gave them unforgettable adventures, it also sparked profound conversations about life, mortality, and family.
Speaking to Radio Times, Rylan admitted: “I’m more worried about losing my mum than losing my own life. Coming back from Varanasi was eye-opening. It made me realise I’ve just got to enjoy the things I’m doing, and if I’m not enjoying it, then don’t f***ing do it.”
His confession comes with even greater weight after Linda was rushed to hospital earlier this summer, forcing Rylan to take time off from his Radio 2 show. At the time, he told fans: “Mummy Linda isn’t well sadly so I won’t be hosting the show tomorrow. Thank you to the emergency team at Princess Alexandra Hospital. Will keep you updated as she’s on the mend. She’s a trooper.”
Linda has since become a much-loved figure on Celebrity Gogglebox, watching TV alongside her son from the comfort of their sofa. But her sudden health scares have left Rylan openly anxious about her future.
The presenter’s own health history adds another layer of fragility. After his painful 2021 divorce from ex-husband Dan Neal, Rylan suffered heart failure and had to be rushed to hospital twice. “When I was getting divorced, I ended up in an ambulance twice,” he told The Times. “The first thing I do now is have a decaf coffee, because of my heart failure four years ago.”
For Rylan, the lesson from both his and his mother’s struggles is brutally simple: treasure the moments of joy, and never take time for granted.
