In recent months there has been a lot of speculation about what the monarchy will look like when Prince William becomes monarch after King Charles.

However, away from the serious business of preparation for leadership, it has been claimed that William and Princess Kate like sitting down to watch a famous BBC programme.

According to a new book published by royal author and commentator Robert Hardman, William and Kate enjoy sitting down to watch The Traitors.

The Mail reported that Mr Hardman wrote: “The King is the one who still enjoys sitting up writing letters into the night whereas Prince William’s idea of a fun evening, says one of his team, is to ‘sit down with the Princess in front of The Traitors’.”

This isn’t the first time The Traitors has been mentioned in the same breath as the heir to the throne.

Last year, when he presented television executive Stephen Lambert with an OBE (an Officer of the Order of the British Empire) at Windsor Castle, he said that another version of the programme, Celebrity Traitors, was a “big treat” for him and Kate.

Mr Lambert is the founder and chief executive of the production company, Studio Lambert, that makes The Traitors.

Speaking at the time about what it was like meeting William after he received his honour, Mr Lambert said: “He said he and the family were very much looking forward to watching it.

“It was going to be a big treat for them and probably for the nation, he expected. And I told him about the fact that our celebrities have entered into the game with great seriousness.

“So, they’re not just doing it because it’s a chance for them to be celebrities on television, but because they actually love the game, but also because they are the talented people they are, so they’re also very funny, and I think it’s extremely entertaining television.”

The revelation that William enjoys The Traitors comes as he and other members of the Royal Family make media moves of their own. Both King Charles and William have made changes to their respective teams in recent years with the former hiring a former royal correspondent for Sky News, but the latter opting for a senior director at PR firm Edelman.

PR expert and former journalist David Yelland said on his hit podcast When It Hits The Fan that this showed one of the main differences between the famous father and son.

He explained: “Kensington Palace is bringing in PR professionals – people who have handled crises – whereas the Palace, Buckingham Palace, is bringing in journalists.

“That’s the cultural thing, the fundamental difference we’re talking about here. At Kensington Palace, they have a PR plan, they have a strategy because, of course, at some point, William will become King. So, they need to start filling in that sort of PR plan over the next few years.”
