The 57-year-old presenter, who appears in Celebrity Traitors, admitted that the show became a way for her to confront grief, while privately she has been taking cautious steps back into the world of romance.

Kate’s husband Derek tragically passed away earlier this year after long-term complications from Covid, leaving Kate as a single mum to their children Darcey and Billy. For years she had been his full-time carer, balancing work and family life under extraordinary pressure.

But in the months that followed Derek’s death, the presenter found herself at the centre of speculation, with constant stories linking her to “mystery boyfriends.” Some even claimed she had already found “a new man.” Kate has now admitted those rumours weren’t true at the time — but in a twist, she revealed that she is now seeing someone.

“I’ve laughed at so many of the rumours — one website even used an AI face mash of Ben Shephard as ‘my boyfriend,’ which was just ridiculous,” she said. “But after all of that, I realised hiding the truth wasn’t helping. The reality is, yes — I’ve started dating again.”

'I do realise that, when the time is right, I am not going to meet someone in my living room, so I¿m going to have to think about the future at some point', Kate emotionally admitted

Kate explained that her decision to go public comes after weeks of pressure, with friends and fans constantly asking if she had moved on.

“It felt dishonest to keep pretending otherwise,” she admitted. “I never thought I’d be ready, but I’ve realised Derek would want me to find happiness again. I’m still grieving, but I also want to show my children that love and life can continue.”

While Kate has chosen not to reveal the identity of her new partner, she insisted that the relationship is “early and private,” though she admits going public may stop the endless speculation.

Her confession marks a huge step for the much-loved presenter, who until recently admitted she couldn’t imagine ever being with anyone else.

“Derek and I loved our home life. We had 21 years of that, and I’ll never stop carrying it with me. But maybe it’s time to allow myself a chance at something new, even if it feels strange right now,” she said.

Kate’s brave honesty has moved fans, who continue to support her through every chapter — from Derek’s illness and death to her journey of healing and now, cautiously, to love again.
