Carrie Underwood championed Hannah Harper from the moment she auditioned for American Idol, breaking down in tears over the relatability of her original song, “String Cheese,” which Hannah wrote while dealing with postpartum depression. Now, in a full-circle moment, the women are making plans to collaborate on that very track.

After Hannah was announced the winner of Season 24 on May 11, she shared a special moment with Underwood on stage. Cameras caught the ladies hugging after the news was announced. Hannah was still wiping away her tears while chatting with the country superstar, and she was shocked when a reporter pointed out that she’s the first female country music winner of American Idol since Underwood herself.

“That’s some big shoes to fill,” Hannah admitted, while Underwood told her, “No, you got your own shoes. I’m proud. Very proud. A proud mom.”

When Underwood was asked if she has “String Cheese” on her music playlist, the “Before He Cheats” singer confirmed that she does.

“I was singing with you,” she said to Hannah. “I actually have a friend that works in music publishing and when he found out you were going to be on the show, he called us, and he was like, ‘Oh my gosh, I’ve been following her.’ Like, as a songwriter. Which is a testament to her songwriting.”

Hannah then took the opportunity to ask Underwood, “You wanna do a feature on ‘String Cheese’ with me?” and Underwood agreed. “Let’s do it!” she said. “We’ll do something. I’ll have my tissues ready.”

During the finale, Hannah performed “String Cheese,” as well as a rendition of Alicia Keys‘ “No One” and another original song, which she dedicated to her Missouri hometown. She received the most viewer votes throughout the episode to be named winner against runner-up Jordan McCullough and second runner-up Keyla Richardson.
