The season 24 finale of American Idol was a star-studded night featuring performances from Clay Aiken, Lee Ann Womack, Nelly, Shinedown, Brad Paisley, and many others. As always, it wouldn’t feel like a proper finale without appearances from the judges as well.

But while the evening was packed with celebration and big performances, there could only be one winner. With Hannah Harper ultimately being crowned the latest American Idol, Keyla Richardson’s mother later shared her blunt opinion, claiming her daughter had been robbed.
Making it into the Top 3, Richardson was the first finalist eliminated during the live finale, leaving Jordan McCullough and Harper to compete for the title. Although she had hoped to win the season, Richardson expressed gratitude for how far she had come in the competition.

In an Instagram Stories post, she wrote, “You won the race. Your voice, your courage, your presence, and your journey inspired so many people watching. The mark you left on America is way bigger than any title. Keep shining, keep believing, and keep walking in your purpose. Watch what God has next.”
Despite Richardson’s positive response to the outcome, her mother, Katja, had a very different reaction. In a now-deleted Facebook post, she wrote, “My baby was robbed. She did not fail. She was robbed. I’m sorry. I’m gonna say it.”
Luke Bryan already considers Keyla Richardson a winner
While Katja voiced her frustration over the results, Richardson herself appeared focused on the positives, choosing gratitude over controversy as she moved forward in her music career.
Before her elimination, Luke Bryan had already spoken highly of her, calling her a winner in his eyes.

“This whole year I just watched you focus with drive and determination. We’ve seen you just give it your all for your family and your crew and your people and you’ve won in our eyes. Just watching you seize every moment has been so inspiring to me. Congratulations, great job.”
Even without taking home the crown, Richardson ended her American Idol journey on a high note, supported by fans, judges, and fellow contestants. With Bryan describing her run as “inspiring,” she left the competition with her head held high. The title may have slipped away, but Richardson still gained a national platform and major exposure for her music career.
