The owner of one of the horses stabbed during the National Barrel Horse Association (NBHA) Professional’s Choice Las Vegas Super Show is speaking out after a teen girl was arrested.

The teen was detained after three horses were found “intentionally injured with a sharp object” in a barn in Las Vegas, according to police.

The owner of one of the injured horses — who declined to be identified — described the incident to ABC News as “absolutely devastating,” saying it was heartbreaking to see her horse, Detail, “who is my entire world and my best friend, in so much pain, helpless and injured…”

The owner also told the outlet that the teen follows her on social media and had previously made “comments and attempts about trying to meet me and Detail at last year’s NBHA Supershow.”

“This year, she happened to be in the same warmup pen at the same time as me and officially met me and Detail. This was one night before the stabbing,” the owner said. “She made comments on Detail’s markings.”

Cali Raymer, a 17-year-old competitor, also told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that she had spoken with the suspect “a few times” before the incident occurred.

“It’s kind of scary that something like that would happen here,” she said.

Police said they believe the teen had access to the barn and allegedly used a knife to injure the horses. She was later booked on a dozen counts of willful or malicious killing, maiming, or torturing of an animal, along with three felony counts of malicious destruction of private property valued at over $5,000, according to a police press release.

The injuries sustained by the horses were not considered life-threatening, but they did prevent the animals from competing in the 2026 NBHA Show at the South Point Arena & Equestrian Center.

The NBHA told ABC News that the suspect was also believed to have been a competitor in this year’s event.

“The situation was addressed immediately in coordination with the National Barrel Horse Association, the South Point Hotel & Casino Security, Metro Police, and all appropriate parties,” the NBHA said in a news release.

“The individual involved has been removed and placed in the care of authorities, and there is no ongoing threat of any kind,” the organization added.
