Pink is in the house, and just like that, we’re back to the early aughts. The “Just Give Me a Reason” singer made her entrance at New York City’s Radio City Music Hall for the 79th Annual Tony Awards while in a sparkly black gown with petal-like ruffles, a blue rosette on her hair, and dangly long earrings. And, surprise, she brought along her entire family: mom Judith Moore, husband Carey Hart, daughter Willow Hart, and son Jameson Hart.
Pink is the star host of the ceremony this year, and kicked off the ceremony with a bouncy performance featuring dozens of Broadway legends. For the number, she made a quick change into a oink corset with crystal fringe, fishnets, and tall black boots.
Per Broadway News, the performance featured music and lyrics by Tony-winning writing duo Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, in collaboration with Oscar-winning songwriter Mark Sonnenblick, as well as choreography by Broadway’s Sarah O’Gleby.
Leading up to Tonys night, Pink went on Late Night With Seth Meyers to talk about her hosting gig, and admitted she was feeling “terricited”—or somewhere between terrified and excited.
While Pink’s music career has certainly featured theatrical elements, she never took the Broadway route. Her daughter, Willow, however, is actively pursuing a career in musical theater, and Pink told Meyers that the theater community has been “lovely” in welcoming the teen.
After Pink’s opening number, Queen Latifah, Rachel Zegler, and Leslie Odom Jr. will take the stage. I especially cannot wait for Latifah’s Chicago tribute performance, as the musical celebrates its 30th year on Broadway. (The actor and singer was famously nominated for an Oscar for her turn as Matron Mama Morton in the film adaptation.)
Other performers set to take the stage include Jesse Tyler Ferguson, Alex Newell, Adrienne Warren, Cedric The Entertainer, Julianne Hough, Whitney Leavitt, and Dylan Mulvaney, among others.
