Catherine, Princess of Wales Praised For “Genius Tactic” During Royal Appearances… And Experts Say It’s The Secret Behind Her Lasting Popularity
Princess Kate’s genius tactic behind Royal Family appearances
The Princess of Wales has a ‘clever’ way of fitting into the Royal Family, a royal expert has revealed.

Catherine, Princess of Wales, has done a “very clever job” in adapting to royal life, a royal author has claimed, having worked out the perfect formula. According to Catherine Mayer, who has written her new book, Divide and Rule: Royal Women and Their Battles, the Princess of Wales, 44, does “very little” public speaking and does “no confessional spilling”.
Speaking on HELLO!’s A Right Royal Podcast, Ms Mayer said: “She has done such a very clever job of finding a way to adapt to the institution. That does not mean I think she’s had it easy. “She does very little speaking and almost no confessional spilling of anything about who she is. She and William have also chosen a group of friends who, as we know, do talk to the media, but only when they’re told to and not then on the record. But otherwise they don’t talk at all.”

The royal author also revealed that she believes Catherine’s degree has helped her fit into life at the Firm. The princess graduated from the University of St Andrews, Scotland, with an undergraduate Master of Arts (MA) degree in the History of Art, earning a 2:1 in 2005. It was here she met her future husband, Prince William.
According to Ms Mayer, “I saw her own increasing mastery of imagery. So it’s not just that she’s chosen to be involved with the National Portrait Gallery or to do her own photography. But she understands how to use imagery to fulfil that royal role.”
For example, the mother of three often chooses to share her own photographs to assert control over her family’s privacy. The princess typically shares photographs for each of her children’s birthdays each year, and for major events such as Mother’s Day.

In 2024, she revealed her cancer diagnosis herself through an intimate and candid video shared across Kensington Palace’s official platforms, including X (formerly Twitter) and YouTube, later sharing a similar family video to announce she had completed her cancer treatment.
In her Father’s Day post in June 2024, which featured Prince William, George, Charlotte and Louis looking out at the ocean from behind, explicitly captioned on social media as being “taken by The Princess of Wales”.
