Harrowing new details have emerged in the murder of Reform UK spokeswoman and veteran politician Ann Widdecombe, as the 28-year-old suspect, Joshua Kerry, made his first court appearance.

During a brief hearing at Westminster Magistrates’ Court, prosecutors outlined a brutal and swift attack that claimed the life of the prominent political figure. According to prosecutor Kashif Malik, the incident occurred on July 8 while Widdecombe was eating lunch at her home.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) alleges that Kerry pulled up outside the residence in a red Vauxhall Corsa, entered through the front door, and proceeded directly to the kitchen. There, he allegedly struck Widdecombe in the head with a hammer 21 times. The court heard that Kerry then tipped Widdecombe from her chair, removed her wallet from her handbag, and fled the scene in his vehicle.

According to prosecutors, the entire fatal encounter lasted just two minutes. Widdecombe was later discovered face down on her kitchen floor by her gardener, having suffered severe trauma. A provisional cause of death has been officially recorded as blunt force injury to the head. Alarm bells were initially raised on the day of the attack when Widdecombe failed to appear for a pre-arranged media interview scheduled shortly before 1:00 p.m.

Appearing in the dock, Kerry remained emotionless, speaking only to confirm his name, date of birth, and address. Chief Magistrate Paul Goldspring formally remanded him into custody, telling the defendant, “You are charged with an offense of murder which can only be dealt with in a Crown Court.” Kerry is scheduled to make his next appearance at the Central Criminal Court, widely known as the Old Bailey.

The shocking nature of the killing has sent ripples through the UK’s political landscape, prompting immediate reactions from Widdecombe’s colleagues. Reform UK leader Nigel Farage publicly addressed the court revelations, expressing outrage over the incident and raising questions about the suspect’s motives.

Taking to social media, Farage stated: “The details of Ann Widdecombe’s murder revealed in a court are horrific. Why will no one report on Joshua Kerry’s political views?” Farage further suggested a double standard in the media and political establishment, asserting that if a Reform Party member had committed such a crime, the party “would be closed down.”

Authorities have emphasized that the investigation is active and ongoing, cautioning against speculation that could prejudice the upcoming Crown Court trial. The case continues to draw heavy national attention as the public awaits further proceedings at the Old Bailey.
