‘I worked with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and saw him receive bizarre delivery’
A story credited to a “British diplomat in Moscow” has detailed how Andrew allegedly once received a bizarre delivery at his hotel, while seeking out an item described as his “top priority”
Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor once received a bizarre delivery at his hotel via “some very pretty shop assistants”, it has been claimed. The revelation comes amid Andrew’s 10-year tenure as the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment coming under scrutiny in recent months, as he deals with the ongoing repercussions of the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.
Andrew, who denies any wrongdoing, was arrested by Thames Valley Police on suspicion of misconduct in public office in February. He spent 11 hours in custody while officers searched his home on the Sandringham Estate, and was released under investigation.
As Queen Elizabeth’s second-born son, and often said to have been her favourite child, it’s only natural that he is mentioned in Robert Hardman’s new biography of the late monarch.
Andrew’s role as trade envoy also features in Elizabeth II: In Private. In Public. The Inside Story, including an anecdote about the alleged “acquisition” of an unusual item on a trade-related visit to Moscow, Russia.
Robert wrote: “One British diplomat in Moscow would remember a trade-related visit by the Duke, during which his top priority seemed to be the acquisition of a fur hat.”
He quotes the diplomat as saying: “He had a selection of them delivered to his hotel late in the evening – come to think of it, by some very pretty shop assistants.”
It comes after the UK’s former ambassador to Italy, Sir Ivor Roberts, alleged that Andrew made a “gratuitously rude” remark to a member of a prominent Italian fashion house in 2004.
It reportedly occurred during a trip to Florence, where Sir Ivor Roberts claimed to The i Paper that, upon being introduced to a member of the Schiaparelli family, Andrew said: “I’ve never heard of you.”
Sir Ivor stated: “It was just gratuitously rude.”
In other news, a royal expert claimed this month that Andrew could be removed “dragging and screaming” from his new home in a similar fashion to Royal Lodge.
Earlier this year, Andrew was ousted from his 30-room mansion and has since moved to Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk. He is expected to stay here while his permanent residence at nearby Marsh Farm undergoes a revamp.
Royal author Robert Jobson told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive on YouTube: “It’s been wrecked. I mean, the poor place looked quite nice before. Now with this lump of this sort of Peaky Blinders caravan on the side of it, it’s just dreadful.”
He continued: “This was quite a nice sort of country home. It’s just awful now. You know, the way it’s been, you know, I don’t know. I think that when he eventually, if he ever moves in, I mean, you know, it just seems crazy to me what’s been going on.”
Matt Wilkinson, the outlet’s royal editor, suggested that Andrew was “dragging his heels” and questioned whether he was “getting comfortable” in his present home. Robert claimed that he had to be taken, “sort of dragging and screaming out of Royal Lodge”.
He added: “I think it’d be the same at Wood Farm. And if he could stay at Wood Farm and put his security and staff up in the other place, I’m sure that’s what he’d prefer.”
